The following are some of the basic tools you will need to get started baking bread. If you start to get into more advanced bread formulas and styles additional tools may be needed but for now these tools will get you off the ground and started with creating your own bread!
Put out a fire. Kitchen fires are the most common fires in the house. Baking soda deprives a fire of oxygen. It is a great idea to have a tub of it handy in your kitchen, the place for greatest fire hazard. In case of fire, throw handfuls of it at the base of the fire to extinguish it. Take precautions and call the professionals so that they can make sure the fire is properly extinguished.
Decide what kind of baked goods you will supply.Your decision may weigh upon the baking facilities available to you, your baking experience and the amount of time you have to dedicate to the business.
For an easy, at-home mouth wash, just put a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water. Swish, spit, and any trace of that morning breath will be gone. It neutralizes odor versus just covering it up, so you can be worry free all day. When brushing your teeth, dip your toothpaste in some baking soda for a little more oomph in your cleaning power. Feeling even more inspired by the power of baking soda? Make your own toothpaste with a paste mixture of baking soda and 3% hydrogen peroxide for extra pearly whites.
It can’t be used as a substitute for baking powder. If you do, the cake (or whatever) won’t rise and will have a horrible soapy taste as the heating process turns the baking soda to washing soda. However, if you have something acidic in the mixture such as yoghurt or vinegar, then the mixture will rise. Alternatively, you can make your own baking powder by combining 1 measure of baking soda with 2 measures of citric or tartaric acid.
If you want to make this a full time home based baking business, just make sure to maintain a healthy business life balance. It is very easy to maintain this type of business once you get used to how to run a business from home. You may also want to consider if you will get the assistance of family members who are able to work with you during their free time.
Butter, margarine, shortening or oil. Butter traditionally is the choice for cakes. You can measure solid fats by covering them with cold water. For example, if your recipe calls for 1/2 cup fat, fill a measuring cup with 1/2 cup of water and add the fat until the water reaches 1 cup. Oil provides a more moist cake in many cases but be sure to use a vegetable oil. Margarine is usually whipped and contains more water and air so it may not always provide the best results, however, if using margarine you can usually use a stick variety. I suggest avoiding the kind in tubs.
Deodorize. Most deodorants contain chemicals that are harmful for the human body. Mix about 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda with 1/4 teaspoon of water in the palm of your hands. You should rub until the content becomes slippery. Apply underneath the arms straight from your hands. You can play with the dosage as some may need more or less.
